Spring Clean Your Closet

Spring time is here so that means spring cleaning! Fashion bloggers inherit a lot of clothing. We are always shopping and receiving items one has to wonder where it all goes after we post an outfit. Some bloggers sell or return items, some keep and store items it all depends on their closet space. I keep as much as I can and I donate things I no longer need. Keeping items means I have to be smart about how I organize my closet. I like to store away seasonal items. When the weather starts to turn warm I like to store away my winter/fall clothing. It is such an easy process and it saves you so much closet space. Enough space to go shopping for new summer clothes!

Storing Away Seasonal Clothing

Find totes that will fit your closet shelving and fit your clothing. I have one for tops one for bottoms and one for scarves and jackets.

I have a printable for labels you can print of for yourself here.

Next clean out your closet. Go through items you don’t or won’t wear next season. Do not store things you won’t be using again. It is a waist of time and precious closet space. Make three piles. A pile to keep, donate and throw out. Throw out items with holes, stains that cannot be removed, etc.

After going through everything make sure everything is washed. You do not want to store stinky clothes with stains. Stains are a part of living but you do not want to let them sit all season long.

Now that everything is washed and ready to be stored you want to protect them. I protect mine with Scotchgard™ Fabric & Upholstery Protector. I love that this protectant can be used on my clothing as well as my couches, drapes, and chairs. With a toddler around nothing is safe. Scotchgard™ Fabric & Upholstery Protector will protect your items from stains, liquids and toddler hand prints.

Pulling Items from Storage

All your items are stored away time to bring out the spring to summer stuff. I unpack and go through items one more time. I make sure that I still like everything I stored away and I make sure it all fits. After going through everything I wash them.

After washing, I like to spray my clothes with the Scotchgard™ Fabric & Upholstery Protector to protect them from daily stains. I cannot wear a white shirt without spilling something on it or getting little dirty hand prints on it. If you spray to protect your items make sure you reapply after cleaning to maintain protection.

Before you use Scotchgard™ Fabric & Upholstery Protector test a small area of the fabric. If you can wipe any color off do not use the protectant. Each company uses a different dye process, some react well and some react differently.

Make sure you shake can well, and protect any non fabric surfaces from overspray.

Spray 6″ away from garment to get an even spray.

Make sure to let dry between sprays, and reapplying every 6 months or after washing the fabric.

How do you like to protect your clothing before storing them? How do you store your clothing for the season?
