Hey Babes,

As you can clearly see Midi skirts are an obcession of mine. They are so flattering and so feminine on any body type. I love how the skirt drapes over the body exentuating the slimmest part of your waist. It really is such a staple piece to have in your closet. Tuck a blouse in and style it with heels or flats for a dressed up style, or pair it with a tee shirt and chucks and you have the chicest casual outfit ever.

Dressed up With a Blouse Tied over

I love tying a tee or blouse over my Midi skirts. They really draw the eye to the smallest part of your waist in the most flattering way. By tying the blouse over the smallest part of your waist, where the top of the skirt begins it really adds to how slim it makes your waist look. They taught me in my fashion classes that you end a top and begin a bottom where you want the eye to go. The eye natural goes to where two different garments meet. It’s a stopping point for the top and a starting point for the skirt so that is where the eye focuses on.

Midi Skirt with a blouse and Long Cardigan

Ohh I love how this looks. I am not a tall person (about 5’6 almost 5’7), so long cardigans can drown shorter people. My trick to that is wear a tall chunky wedge. They are comfortable not hard to walk in and very cute. Again the style trick is to have the top and skirt meet at the slimmest part of your waist drawing the eye to that part of the body. I added another trick, being as that I am kind of short, I added this long cardigan to draw the eye downward making it appear that I am longer than I really am. This cardigan would not work out with a pair of flats for me, if the cardigan drags or bunches at the bottom the eye doesn’t see the long, tidy line.

Tee Shirt and Heels

Now I love a good graphic tee and heels. I think they pull the hard and soft look off perfectly. This outfit is one of my most viewed, liked and repinned.

Adding a graphic tee with a midi skirt kind of edges up the look a little bit. I love the graphic and how it styles with the lines in my skirt. The midi is the perfect skirt to slim the body. Again I tucked the top into the skirt at the smallest part of my waist and bloused it out just a touch to untidy the look a bit and really draw the eye to that waistline.

Pattern Mix

Pattern mixing is a favorite of mine. It is such a fun way to style an outfit and make it interesting and chic. When pattern mixing mix a large print and a small print, with a similar color. Like my top has yellow in it so it pairs well with the color in the skirt. The pattern on my top is larger so the pattern in my skirt needs to be a smaller or more muted pattern.

So to sum it up when pattern mixing:

  • find a similar or matching color in both prints.
  • have one larger print and a smaller more faded print.

Pulling Colors

When styling outfits such as this I like to pull a color from a skirt. When pulling colors I like to pull a bright color in the pattern that isn’t a huge part of the pattern. If I pulled a purple I think my outfit would feel very monochromatic. I pulled this gorgeous turquoise color from the boxes in the skirt. You could also pull the orange or black, but I just felt like the turquoise looked better with the skirt and my long cardigan. Pulling colors from a skirt adds dimension and style to any outfit. It pulls an outfit together without feeling to matchy matchy, especially if you pull a contrasting jacket or cardigan to pair over to tie everything together. I love this outfit, it has been a popular one on my pinterest board.

Adding Statement Necklaces

Statement necklaces bring a lot to an outfit. I love adding a statement necklace to a casual outfit. Sometimes adding a statement necklace to a dressed up look makes it look really over the top. Not all the time but a lot of the time. This necklace with the casual striped tee and the casual gladiator sandals really adds a stylistic element to the outfit. This outfit is seriously one of my favorites, especially with the owl skirt.

Add converse or sneakers

Midi skirts look adorable with a cute chambray top tied around your waist and a cute pair of chucks. I love this look for summer. We often go to the zoo or to the aquarium and this is the perfect outfit for the occasion.

The tied chambray around the waist not only makes the outfit more casual and easy going it ties the start top to the red and white patterned bottom. Of course this was a fourth of july outfit but I think it applies to any summer occasion. Chucks add a chic comfort to the skirt and just really make this a chic summer look.

Dressing it up with sandals

Now midi’s are so versatile you can pretty much style them with anything. Pairing them with gladiator sandals is life. I dressed this outfit up with a blouse that pulls the yellow from the skirt, and dressed it up with a tassel necklace. I then pulled the black from the skirt and the gold from the necklace and grabbed these amazing black and gold gladiators.

This outfit is perfect for public speaking, church, meetings that allow sandals. This is such a fun summer outfit and I love the print in that skirt!

Pairing with booties

Fall is coming soon, so why not pair your summer midi skirts with some cute adorable booties. I love browsing Haute Look, Groopdealz, and Jane for great prices on inexpensive but chic booties. Charlotte Russe also has some really adorable booties that are under $20 when they have shoe sales.
