Mommy Style Monday: Favorite Books

Hey Babes,

Books have always been in my life. My mom always instilled in us at a young age to love books. She would always read to us, take us to the library, let us listen to books on tape as we fell asleep. I am so lucky she gave my siblings that amazing gift.

I now must pass that on to Aria. Brandon’s mom is always giving us books for Aria. Aria had a huge collection of books before she was even born. We make it part of your bedtime routine to read books. As of recently she has grabbed a book and started to “read” back to us. Of course she can’t actually read but she remembers the voices we make and she knows what the story is about. For example we have been reading “Little Bunny Foo Foo” lately she will make the actions of the bunny hopping through the Forrest, scooping up the field mice and she will bop herself on the head.

Reading to kids not only is a bonding moment it helps their attention span. They can sit and focus on your voice, your rhythm. It teaches them to love books at a young age. It teaches them vocabulary, to discover and research. Read to your kids! It is beneficial to you both.

Where the Wild Things Are:

This book is such an amazing book about imagination. I read this when I was little. I am so happy to relive this with Aria. The pictures are so cute and so perfect from a child’s perspective.

The Very Hungry Caterpillar:
This is another book I read as a child. This was one of the very first books I read to Aria. Kids love the colors, that they can put their fingers through the little holes in the fruit. It teaches them colors, and food. Two things kids pick up fairly quickly.

Cloudy With a Chance of  Meatballs:
This was one of the first books I fell in love with as a kid. I loved this pictures and all the images my imagination conjured up. The original book was a big paper back, so when I found it as a board book I had to grab it for Aria. We love reading this together. She loves pointing to the different foods, liking her lips and saying “mmm tasty!”

Put Me in the Zoo:
This book is not only adorable, and has amazing colors, but it teaches a really important lesson. It’s ok to be different, but be yourself. Never try to put yourself somewhere you can’t be completely yourself. Aria loves all the colors and the dots. She thinks he is a cat, so she is always calling him by her cats name.

The True Story of the 3 Little Pigs:
This book is a fun morbid little spin off a classic book. Aria loves when he sneezes. She has to rein-act the sneezing every time. This book is a book that gets “misplaced” often. We do need a break from it every once in a while.

Three Snow Bears:
This book has amazing pictures. We read the book but a lot of times Aria will make up the story in her language. It is so fun because the book has two stories going on. There is the main page with the story and on the side there is a secondary story going on at the same time. It’s a giant board book so its very toddler friendly.

    I love all of these books! As much as I love the new ones that have come out, I think it is so fun to introduce books to my kids that I read when I was little. They think that is so cool.
