Good Morning!
Balancing life in general as a mom is tough. Trying to find time for everyone including yourself can be a chore, to be honest, I am still figuring it all out.
Last year I started tracking things a little better, my blog, my family, my job as a dental assistant. It was a lot to balance but I think I found a sweet spot. Then I quit my day job {read about that here}.
Becoming a stay at home mom threw me into a whole new world where I again had to find balance. Being home with Aria is amazing, but I want to make sure I spend time with her while giving her some independent time. We try to not spend all day every day watching shows or youtube. Not gonna lie days I am sick, or days we are both just not feeling like going out in the world we cuddle together and watch movies. The key to everything is moderation and balance. So let’s dive into some tips I have for finding that balance.
Tips For Finding Balance
Set Work Hours:
If you work from home, or like me have a blog, set hours. If you don’t your work will bleed into family time. That is something I still struggle with but I am working on. While Aria naps or is in bed for the night that is when I do my blogging, edit photos, social media, emailing brands etc. I get the best work done without distractions. Those are my hours unless I have a post that needs some extra attention, in that case, I work while Brandon takes lead with Aria. He will take her for a walk, go to the park, or play outside.
Set a Cleaning Schedule:
For me I can’t be inspired when the house is a mess, I can’t actually feel anything but stress when it is. So I set a schedule I keep myself to, to keep on top of cleaning. Every morning after breakfast Aria will help me do the chore of the day. Somedays she goes off for some independent play, but a lot of the time she will help me. I have set chores for set days. I will do a post of my cleaning schedule soon and link it {here} when it’s up.
Take some Me time:
Brandon is really good at helping me go off and get time for myself. Every month my sister, my mom, and I go and do a girls night. It is such a good time for me to get out and spend time with my family while doing something for myself.
If you can’t get out take 30 minutes and go take a bubble bath. Let Dad take the kids out for ice cream or outside to play. We all need this for our sanity. We also do this for Brandon, Dad’s need a break from work and kids as well.
Ask for Help:
This is especially hard for me because I like to do everything myself. Sometimes that just isn’t possible. I have a really good family 10 minutes away. So when I need to go to an event or go take photos my mom will take Aria for an hour or so. I try to avoid doing this unless I really need to. It is so nice to have such an awesome support system so close to home.
Take a timeout:
Take time off and just hang out with the family. Unplug from social media and enjoy the moment. I struggle with this as well. My friend pointed out to me being a blogger is like running a one-man magazine. You brainstorm content, draft it, photograph it, it’s a lot of work and if you do it without taking a break you will burn out. When I unplug I find inspiration for posts just like this.
Find Motivation:
You need things that motivate you. Mood boards, family, friends, your readers. These all motivate me not only to produce good content but to be myself and not lose myself in the comparison game. A lot of motivation comes from my life. Things I do with Aria, things we do as a family. Of course, fashion always motivates me, but that has kind of gone to the back burner for budgeting reasons. Being a mom means sacrifice and my wardrobe is one thing I will gladly sacrifice to save up for her future.
Find products and apps that help you stay on track:
I was blogging on the oldest HP computer known to man. It took me hours to edit photos, and draft posts because it was so slow. I worked my butt off and saved up money for a MacBook. That has changed my life significantly. I am able to draft posts in like five minutes. I can write posts while Aria is in the tub, or draft a post while we are driving around running errands.
My phone has a planner I like to stick to, as well as a paper planner I have all my content planned out on { check that post out here }.
I love things to look nice and clean so these Caseapp cases for my phone and computer not only look cute they encourage me to get to work. You know how getting a cute outfit to work out in helps entice you to work out..well a cute case helps me to get my butt moving on getting a post drafted and hop on Instagram and answer DM’s or comments.
