Good Morning!
I binge watched Queer Eye for the Straight Guy and I they emphasized self care a lot and how as we get older and have kids sometimes our priorities shift and we get lost and don’t take care of ourselves as we should.
I fell into that trap as well. Losing time and effort I am now inspired to do more for myself. Now I am a busy mom and don’t have the time to visit spas for expensive pampering. So I found a daily ritual that will take 10 minutes or less to do once you get it down. All DIY and an at home remedy so you can put the kids down for a nap or bed time and take some much need YOU time.
Sunday:
I use this day to rest from everything. Try to keep this day for just family and relaxation. Take a break from social media, spend time with family and relax.
Monday: (Mask Day)
Monday is for mask day. If you have a good face mask you like to use take this day to use it. Make sure all your makeup is off and you have clean skin. I am currently using the Skinfood masks, but you can easily make your own!
Ingredients
- 1 Cup Honey
- 3 tbsp Almond Milk
Instructions
- Mix until well combined.
- Rub over face gently.
- Lay down and let soak for 15-20 min, I often take a hot bath and let it sit for 30 minutes. I then hop in the shower to rinse it off.
- *Honey is full of antioxidants, it is great for slowing down aging. Complexion boost: It is extremely moisturizing and soothing, so it helps create a glow.
- *Almonds are high in antioxidants that helps protect your cells from oxidative damage, a major contributor to aging
I also once a month do a hair mask. There are some really good DIY ones like the coconut oil one. This is one of my favorites {HERE}.
Tuesday: (Toes)
Pedicures are not only enjoyable but make your feet look pretty for sandals. I don’t have the time, energy or money to do it often so I learned how to give myself a pedicure. You don’t even need fancy foot baths, even though those are really nice to have. I use gallon ice cream buckets for my feet to soak in. Easy to clean and cheap to aquire 🙂
1 gallon of warm water
3 cups of Espom Salt
4 drops of Peppermint Oil
Let soak for 10 min.
Take feet out of foot soak, buff heels, then apply your favorite lotion. Wrap feet in hot towels (soak towels in hot water, microwave for 15 seconds).
Now push cuticles back, file nails. Cut away any hangnails or loose skin.
Use cuticle oil, let dry.
Apply a base coat or primer, then your nail polish, let dry, then add a top coat.
Voila, you have just given yourself the perfect pedi! I will link all the tools I love below.
Wednesday: (Wax or Shave)
This is the day I shave or wax, and shape my brows. You can do any of this at home, but if you wax I suggest you consult a professional because there are very specific ways to properly wax with our injuring yourself.
I am a shaver, for now, I plan on doing laser sometime in the future. This mermaid razor {HERE} is one of my absolute favorites. Be careful it is really sharp!
Thursday: (Tan)
I am a redhead so tanning for me comes in a can. This used to take me forever to do but now that I have it down it takes me about 10 minutes to apply my tan a little more if I really get picky. Tanwise is my all time favorite! It is inexpensive and you can get it at Sally’s or Amazon. You can also use a DIY tan with cocoa powder and lotion. I hear that one is 50/50 though so it all depends on how your skin absorbs the color.
You can see how to get the perfect summer-ready legs {HERE}.
Friday: (Fingers/Facials)
Take the time now to give yourself a manicure. There are so many tools you can use for this but I use, coconut oil for my cuticles, a cuticle pusher, file, nail polish and top coat.
Ok, so this is the same process for your hands as it is for your feet. I soak my hands in a hot Epsom salt soak using two regular bowls. For the oil, I use lemon instead of peppermint which I like for my feet.
Now, I lotion up my hands and wrap them in a hot steamed towel. Let them sit for a few minutes and unwrap.
File nails, push back cuticles and trim away the skin.
Use the cuticle oil, base coat, polish and top coat.
You can use sugar scrubs if you want but the Epsom salt works wonders for my mani’s.
On to the facial routine. My picture actually reminds me of something from Handmaids Tale, it’s kind of silly but I love this routine. I got it from Lauren Conrad’s blog a while back, it does work, and it is so relaxing. You can find hers {HERE}
Boil water and transfer to a glass mixing bowl.
Mix in your choice of oils, I love using lavender for relaxation.
Now set bowl somewhere you can sit and lean over it comfortably, like your desk or kitchen table.
Now place a towel over your head to trap the steam. Make sure the steam isn’t burning your face it should be a gentle heat.
Sit over a bowl for 20 minutes.
Pat dry with a towel, tone and moisturize.
Feel Relaxed? I sure do.
If you want or have a facial steamer use it! They are amazing for clogged pores. I had one years ago but lost it somehow in one of our many moves, so now I will save up for a new one. Until then this will be my steaming routine.
Saturday: (Soak)
Take a long Epsom salt bath. This helps detox and helps me with sore muscles. I really love my Saturday soaks. After you soak make sure to lotion up! Bath bombs are dreamy you can make your own with my recipe {HERE}.
I hope you enjoyed this self-care post. It was a long one but it helps for sure.
