Good Morning!
You have seen Aria and me in the kitchen a lot lately. It all started with the brain cake (here), and now we wanted to try the Hocus Pocus Book of Spells Book. In the Nerdy Nummies Cook Book, this was a set of textbooks. So we altered it a bit to make it Halloween themed.
Aria and I have been watching Hocus Pocus together and she loves the Binx and the book. So she helped me conjure up a plan for the recipe.
Let’s Get Cookin!
Ingredients:
- 1 cup unsalted butter
- 1 cup white sugar
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 egg
- 1/2 tsp almond extract
- 2 tsp baking powder
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 3 cups flour
Find the recipe (here).
Follow the recipe, and use a square cookie cutter to get the shape.
This recipe you won’t need to refrigerate the dough. It will keep it’s shape while it bakes.
Bake the cookies. I bake mine for 7 minutes, I do like my cookies to be softer.
To frost make your favorite royal icing recipe. I like to add fresh lemon instead of water to the icing. This gives it a nice lemon flavor.
You will need brown, black and white icing.
Use a picture for reference and add the details to the book.
Let sit for a few hours to fully set, and enjoy!
I hope you have as much fun as I did creating these cookies. Baking is such a great bonding experience for Aria and I. Hopefully she can become a great cook and pass this tradition down to her kids.
