Good Morning Friends,
This year I am making mind of what is in my closet. Making smarter purchases for my wardrobe is next on my radar. What do I really need, what is good for my budget and what trendy pieces can I get the most for my money.
What Items are Needed
Classics are always needed. Little black dresses, blazers, white tees, etc.
Classic items I allow a little more in my budget if needed. I search first for quality items on Amazon and Jane. How you tell what a quality item is read reviews, read and compare fabric to higher end fabric. Amazon has amazing return policies so if you get an item with loose threads and loose buttons you can return the item.
Shop Classic Items
I read a great article about quality fabrics (HERE), she explains things so much better than I could and also has a great downloadable list on how to know what is quality fabrics for yourself.
I agree when possible use the hands on approach. Check seams, quality fabric, matching up patterns etc. Now some of these things aren’t always important but does have a say in durability.
These are items needed for a lasting wardrobe.
Determining A Budget
I would love to be able to shop from places like Nordstrom. My budget only allows that once in a while for classic pieces that are on sale.
My budget is usually $25 an item. I will extend that for classic, durable pieces that will be styled multiple ways and multiple times. For pants or dresses my budget is usually $40. I love shopping for jeans from American Eagle when they have their bogo sales. My favorite places for dresses is Roolee (shop their sales) and My Sister’s Closet. Again shop sales as much as possible. I always go to the clearance section first before shopping the rest of the site, or store.
What Trendy Pieces are Worth It
Trendy pieces are something you purchase at a discount. They often come in and out of style and you don’t want to sped a lot of money on an item that will only get you a season or two. For those items I do not buy more than two in a year and I do not spend over $25. If they are too expensive I pass, or ask for those items as gifts. That’s how I determine the worth of a trendy item, what can I get the most out of for the time I have them. Can I wear this item multiple ways? Will I wear this item more than once? Can I get more than maybe one or two seasons out of this?
I hope this helps in your endeavors, and aids in your shopping. Currently I am purging my closet and getting it cleaned out, so this was the perfect time to post this!
