Good Morning Friends,
I occasionally post our journey with homeschool on Instagram and got a few questions on how to do it. We are trying the Montessori method mixed with things that work for Aria.
She is very much a visual learner, so that is how I learned to teach her.
We take about an hour each day to do her school. Anything more than that Aria would shut down lol. She is only 4 so you can’t expect a lot when it comes to that. Take things slows, have patience.
Let’s get started.
We have a different topic each week. Some times a topic may take us more than a week so we just push back the other topics or eliminate one that may not be as interesting or important as the others.
Time of Day
Now our time of day differs. Usually, we do school about 1:00 then she does independent play time. There are some days where I can see Aria won’t have the attention span so I hurry and do a quick version of the school right after breakfast.
How to plan a Lesson
I usually hop on Pinterest and look up activities that go along with our lesson plan. I then design a coloring page or activity on canva. This does take some time, however. I usually try to prep Saturday night and get everything designed and printed. Often I will laminate them so I can reuse them for refresher courses or when we cycle back the lesson plans.
Knowing your limits and theirs
Now at first homeschool was so hard. There were tears, anger, and frustration. I was learning her limits she was learning mine. We figured that out pretty quick thankfully.
Don’t expect too much from them, especially when you are first starting. If you can’t find the patience and things aren’t going well at all. Consider ending your homeschool journey. You really do not want to scar or have resentment towards one another.
There are so many facebook groups that offer support for homeschooling. It is always great finding support. If you have mom’s in the neighborhood who are homeschooling, group up for field trips or a recess to the park.
Lessons We Have Done:
These were lessons I have done and blogged about I plan on eventually uploading them all here, but here is what I have so far.
You can follow my homeschool board here for ideas, and other blogs that have lesson plans.
