Thank you to Loomwell for working with me on Aria’s Big Girl Room #loomwellpartner
Good Morning Friends,
We purged Aria’s room of all her baby gear and started designing her a fun big girl room. We set a budget and got to work on a mood board.
Aria was working with me the whole time in what she wanted. I asked her what kind of room she wanted. She explained she wanted a flower room. We picked out colors together and it was a lot of fun shopping and designing a room with her.
So if your interested in the whole design process let’s get started!
Make a Mood Board
Pull inspiration from other rooms, get a color pallet going and put things together and change things that don’t quite fit. I knew we wanted to do a feature wall. We originally wanted to do a herringbone board and batten wall but after applying this gorgeous wallpaper we loved how it looked with just that. Also it would save us cost and time on wood.
This helps us with a shopping list. What colors I should look for, what colors are working together and what colors are not.
We shopped for the room exclusively online. First on the list was the wallpaper.
When shopping for the wallpaper I had a specific floral in mind and went hunting. I came across Loomwell and they had a few different floral patterns I fell in love with. So I showed Aria all the floral prints on the site and she picked out a pattern that I had not even paid attention to and I loved it! It went with our colors and the pattern was just beyond gorgeous. So we easily added our dimensions and got that order in.
Next was the bed. I had such a hard time finding a bed on budget and would work with her room. I was originally looking for a daybed. Aria has a full mattress so finding a daybed to fit that was not possible in our budget so we scratched that idea and found this really cute tufted bed. It was on sale so we ordered that right away.
To save money I was looking for a duvet cover to go over her existing comforter. It took a little time but I found this really cute cover that matches the wallpaper almost exactly. I knew I wanted to add a little black to the room and I love how floral looks with stripes so I hunted for a black and white stripe sheet set and for the longest time couldn’t find one I liked. Finally, Walmart released this set and I ordered it immediately. It was exactly what I wanted for her room.
I found her two cute throw pillows at Ikea when we went to pick up her side table and they really look so cute with the other shade of dusty pink duvet and black and white sheets.
Her drapes were already in this room and looked really pretty with the dusty rose colors as a contrast color. So we saved money on keep her drapes the same. These are gorgeous black out drapes I got on Amazon when we moved into the house and I love how they look, feel, and block out light when needed.
-The Side Table
I wanted to give her a side table to house some of her items we use and never had a place for. We will eventually make the bottom two shelves into drawers but for now it’s in it’s stripped down form. Ikea is a great place for budget friendly items like this for kid rooms.
For the styling of the side table I wanted to keep it simple. I wanted to get two cute baskets to house her bows and miscellaneous items. I found these really cute rose gold baskets on Amazon and while I was looking at them the suggested bar had this gorgeous lamp that matched. These were all inexpensive and perfect for her room.
The wallpaper was a lot easier to apply than I had thought and the texture of the wallpaper was much different than any other wallpaper I have seen. It’s almost a fabric, it’s pretty incredible.
It took Brandon and I about three hours at night to complete the room. We had a tricky window to cut around and our ceilings are absolutely not strait so we did some maneuvering to get around that. I love how this wallpaper looks and it’s removable. If your walls are properly primed and painted you can easily remove this wallpaper without any damage. Damage free makes it easy to take off if your kid grows out of it or your design taste changes.
There is a huge variety on this site for just about everyones taste. You put in your dimensions, they make the wallpaper to scale of your wall and ship your wallpaper. I cannot say enough good things about our experience with Loomwell. I’m truly in love with the texture of this wallpaper. It’s not a tacky, flimsy vinyl.
**Also we have slightly textured walls which usually makes air bubbles, we really didn’t struggle to much with this issue, we had to pinhole just a couple and the rest were easily worked out.**
Very much worth the $$ if you think about priming, painting, taping, all the gear that comes with painting and the time and smells. Pass, I will wallpaper over paint anytime.
I knew I wanted her bed against the floral wall and plus I wanted to give her room around to play. I wanted the side table closer to the closet because I didn’t want to have a surface near a window incase she decided to climb on it for whatever reason you know all the things you worry about as a mom. Like I am terrified of kids falling, especially near windows so the side table when over under this odd window which is up high.
We have a million bows and we usually pick them the same time we pick her outfit out so I placed the bows near her closet for easy access.
Like I said before I wanted to keep her side table simple and clean. Kids don’t need a lot of crap around their bed. So I gave her a lamp, her noise machine/ diffuser and some books. Our eco bee temperature gauge is also in her room so we can control the temperature of her room.
Keep things simple to stay on budget, I know Pinterest has such amazing things but stay on budget and stay within your means and functionality for the room.
Aria has loved her new room she wants to show it to everyone who comes to our house. It was so fun to work with her and let her take some of the design control. She has a good eye, and I can’t wait to add more to the room as we go.
